Description:
RIVERROAD is a brand of garments handcrafted in the United States focused on reusing domestic material and inviting the user to acknowledge the complexities of homemaking through the act of wearing. The project deliverables were 10 looks crafted and performed for the 2025 Multi-Media Event, Melodrama, publication design, social media, surface design for digital, print, and fiber applications and various print advertising collateral.

Everyone has a home inherent or created. The floors, the walls, the linens, the photos, framed and unframed, set the tone for daily life. Inhabitation is a ritual. To care for people is to design using intention and empathy in equal parts. The addition of natural elements to spaces designed for human occupation speaks to the instinctual sense of place found in the land, the sky, the water, the rivers. I know I am getting closer home when Spanish Moss appears in the trees.

This brand uses muted colors, mixed typography, and grainy textures. The brand appropriates and recontextualizes design motifs typically associated with homemaking, with making a home, to build a world in which the user finds a somber sense of comfort, belonging, and community.

RIVERROAD acknowledges traditional American notions of home, women’s works and Southerness. In combination with the ongoing mining of life experience, nostalgia and grief, the brand presents a tense but tender contentment through printed fabric, stationary and photobook. RIVERROAD is an appreciation for all we feel on a path home.
